The President of Turkmenistan Meets with the United Nations Secretary-General

The President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, who was on a working visit to New York to participate in the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
In the afternoon, the President arrived at the United Nations Secretariat building, where the UN Secretary-General warmly welcomed the distinguished guest.
Before the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov made an entry to the Book of Guests of Honour. Then the President of Turkmenistan and the head of the largest international organisation took a photo against the background of the State Flag of Turkmenistan and the Flag of the United Nations.
Thanking President Serdar Berdimuhamedov for taking part in the global forum, the UN Secretary-General emphasised the active and proactive position of our country in cooperation with the Community of Nations. Taking this opportunity, Mr Antonio Guterres conveyed cordial greetings and best wishes to the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, noting that he had the warm recollections of his meetings with the Hero-Arkadag.
Greeting the UN Secretary-General and thanking him for his kind words, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov congratulated him on the successful start of the 78th Session of the General Assembly, expressing belief that it would make an important contribution to strengthening global peace and security and promoting sustainable development on the planet. Taking this opportunity, the President of Turkmenistan addressed gratitude to the Secretariat team for creating the excellent conditions for joint work.
Exchanging views on the priority areas of the bilateral partnerships, the interlocutors emphasised Turkmenistan, guided by the principles of positive neutrality, was pursuing its foreign policy aimed at ensuring the wellbeing of the peoples of the region and the whole world.
In modern realities, the areas of cooperation include ecology, environment protection and climate change mitigation. Our country is closely cooperating with the UN on these issues as well.
In this context, a significant role is assigned to the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, established in Ashgabat in 2007. For more than 15 years, the UNRCCA has proved itself to be an effective platform uniting the UN system and the Central Asian states in finding solutions for new challenges of our time.
In conclusion, the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed belief that the traditional multi-vector partnership for the sake of peace, wellbeing and prosperity on the planet between our country and the UN would continue to develop successfully.
